Metroid v1 11

Afloraltite (アフローラルタイト Afurōrarutaito?) is a crystal that was mined on the Earth colony K-2L. Afloraltite was used to fuel the ignition module of a space ship. Afloraltite has flammable properties, as it is used in the ignition sequence for a ship; it also may have use as an explosive weapon, as a small quantity of it is shown to create a massive explosion when ignited.

Metroid MangaEdit

In the manga, it is shown that Samus Aran lived on the Earth mining colony of K-2L, where her father Rodney Aran was chief of the mining operations. In Samus' youth, the Chozo came to K-2L and asked for Afloraltite, which they secretly intended to use in the creation of Metroids. Rodney Aran denied their request, as the Chozo refused to reveal their reasons for requiring the mineral. Although the Chozo left K-2L in peace, Ridley and his Space Pirates followed them and detected the energy generated by the planet's Afloraltite reserves. They raided K-2L, slaughtering nearly every living thing on the colony. In desperation, Rodney Aran shot the Afloraltite with a welding laser, igniting it and causing a massive explosion which destroyed Ridley's ship and many of his troops. The explosion killed Rodney, leaving Samus as the colony's sole survivor.

TriviaEdit

  • As it is never mentioned in the games it is possible that, for fuel purposes, it was replaced by Fuel Gel. It is also possible that Afloralite is in fact the crystallised form of Fuel Gel. The containers that store Afloraltite bear a strong resemblance to the Energy Cells of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, so it is possible that the Energy Cells' power comes from Afloraltite within.
