Arachnus-X is located in a large room on the Main Deck. It attacks by spitting flames along the floor, curling up and rolling towards a wall to knock Samus off of a ledge, or by creating a blue shockwave with its claws. Take note of the ledges on both ends of the room.
To cause damage to the creature, fire either the Power Beam or Missiles into the front areas of its body that aren't protected by the tough outer shell. To dodge either the fire attack or the "Sonic Wave", jump to the ledge on the wall above you. If it curls up and attempts ram the wall, quickly jump from the ledge to the other side of the room, but only after it is half-way to ramming the wall. If before, you might only land on the creature, causing yourself unnecessary injury. Overall, this form shouldn't cause you any trouble; it's a good tutorial boss showing you what is going to come later in the game. When you cause enough injury, it will transform into a Core-X.
In this form, it will immediately release several yellow and green X, ideal for absorption if you're low on either Missiles or energy. If you deplete your remaining missiles while battling this form, simply shoot it's membrane with the power beam to release more Green X. It will only require 3 missiles to destroy; going from green, to yellow, and finally to red. After this, the Core-X's membrane will rupture revealing the special X inside. When you absorb it, you will recover the Morph Ball ability.
One special note: there is an Energy Tank hidden in an adjacent chamber connected to this room. You can reveal it by shooting missiles up at a certain point above the pit that this battle is held in. Get it before the battle, for you will not be able to come back for it until you obtain the Screw Attack.
