Area1 Add1 (as named internally) is an ambient theme from Metroid: Samus Returns. It was composed by Daisuke Matsuoka.
Description[]
Area1 Add1 was first heard in the E3 2017 trailer, played at the very beginning as the Queen Metroid breathes ominously. It then cuts to Chozo Laboratory as gameplay footage is shown. This notably makes Area1 Add1 the very first music track from Samus Returns to be publicly revealed.
In the game itself, Area1 Add1 is heard in the desolate sandy caves of Area 6, which is home to a Zeta Metroid and an Omega Metroid. It largely consists of a lot of dark ambient sounds with very little discernible melody, creating a foreboding atmosphere. Occasionally, a xylophone will play a descending arpeggio, or strings will perform tense and dissonant chords with vibrato. It can be heard here: [1]

- Despite its internal name, Area1 Add1 is not played at all in Area 1. It shares this distinction with Matad Area01 Damage.
