"Boss" refers to the Space Pirate leader in Metroid Prime: Episode of Aether who along with a band of Pirates attempted to take the Crest. Samus Aran arrived and after killing all the normal pirates with both her Arm Cannon and a fallen gatling gun, the pirate took two hostages and threatened them if Samus didn't stand down, however, she managed to trick him by making him throw the hostages at her, in her path of fire, but push them out of the way in time for her to do a flip in the air and destroy him.
