"What's the matter? All I said was that Komaytos look like little Metr-"

Non-canon warning: This article or section contains information that may not be considered an official part of the Metroid series in the overall storyline by Nintendo.

Boss Creature, also labeled as boss design for Metriod[sic], is an unused boss in concept art from Nelson "Dedos" Garcia and "Xochitl" of Next Level Games. This artwork was created for "Phase 1" of Project Valkyrie, a PvP Metroid Nintendo DS game that was shelved when Nintendo asked Next Level Games to make Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Two pieces of concept art exist for the Boss Creature. Both share similar features in the head and body design, but the first piece has large scythe-like claws akin to Flaahgra and the second piece has more traditional legs. The first piece appears to depict the Boss Creature attached to an iceberg floating on water, and it would submerge.

The Boss Creature's first design was modeled, with its anonymous modeler describing it as a "legless, crustacean-like creature with mantis arms and articulate mandibles". Bosses such as Boss Creature served more as obstacles that provided additional hazards to the competitive PvP matches (similar to stage bosses like Ridley in Super Smash Bros.), rather than a powerful enemy for players to team up against (as in Project Valkyrie's eventual finished form, the cooperative PvE Metroid Prime: Federation Force).

Development of Project Valkyrie was eventually resumed as "Phase 2" on more powerful hardware, and other bosses continued to be modeled, including a tripod-like boss inspired by The War of the Worlds.[1] It is unconfirmed whether the Boss Creature was carried over to Phase 2. It does not appear in any capacity in the final released Nintendo 3DS game, Metroid Prime: Federation Force.
