Once Samus obtains her first Missile and heads back to the door, she will encounter this creature, known as Deorem. It will entrap Samus and demand it fight her. All Samus has to do is fire a Missile at the creature when it opens its eyes. Once Samus defeats it, she will obtain the Charge Beam.
If Samus does not kill Deorem at the first encounter, she will encounter it at other times as she explores Brinstar. If Samus goes to Kraid's Lair after failing to kill the creature, she will encounter the Acid Worm. As a result, Deorem may not be the first boss all people beat.
The worm's name is Deorem, though it is also referred to as Charge Beam Worm, the Giant Centipede, or the Brinstar Worm.
