Chief (主任, Shunin^?) is a high-ranking administrative position in the Galactic Federation civilian government.

The first known chief was Chief Hardy, the chief of the Federation Police Force in the Super Metroid comic and the Metroid Manga. Finally, Chief Rodney Aran is Samus Aran's father and the man who oversaw operations with the supply of Afloraltite on K-2L. A similar Space Pirate title, Chief Astrogation Officer, is also mentioned in Metroid Prime. William Davenport is the chief executive officer of Athena Astronautics.
