Chief Hardy is the chief of the Federation Police found in the Super Metroid comic and the Metroid manga. He is pictured as a short, fat, incompetent black-haired balding mustachioed man who is constantly stuffing his face with a form of sandwiches. His Federation Police force kept its guard down around Planet Zebes and allowed the Zebesian Space Pirates to rebuild their stronghold. His superior is Chairman Keaton who looks down upon him and thinks of him as incompetent. At the end of the series, he is the one who kills the Metroid hatchling with his laser gun.
Hardy made a later appearance in the Metroid manga, an earlier story which introduces him on Jigrad following Samus's actions in destroying the Space Pirate slavers there and chews her and her partners out for disobeying their orders. However, his tirade is cut off when Adam Malkovich appears to survey the trouble and question the Pirate leader. Compared to his prior incarnation, this version of Hardy is a bit less lazy, but still not all too bright. By the end of the manga Hardy appears to be a lot older as he is completely bald. He introduces the story of the Metroid to Samus, and is surprized that she is able to name the yet-unnamed creature.
Chief Hardy also appears in the official strategy guide for Super Metroid. A similar looking character appeared as the apparent head of the Federation in an early manga, known as Commander Nemo. [1]
