The Chozo Hieroglyphic appears in Chozodia in Metroid: Zero Mission after Samus loses her Power Suit. It appears as a floating orb containing an image of either Samus or a Hieroglyphic-like symbol. The Chozo Hieroglyphic can only be damaged while it is showing the symbol; if it is shot while displaying Samus, the player will take damage instead. It will also shoot lightning at the player, which will travel along the ground and must be jumped over. The Chozo Hieroglyphic takes four shots to defeat, at which point Samus's Power Suit will be restored. Also, the three Mystery Items collected throughout the game are revealed to be upgrades; specifically the Gravity Suit, Plasma Beam, and Space Jump.
Note that, before the boss battle, a cinematic shows what appears to be a younger Samus viewing the same wall paintings show during the boss battle, suggesting that she has visited the room while living with the Chozo.
[edit] Trivia
- The Chozo Hieroglyphic has no official name. Different people identify it by different names, such as the Clone Orb, Chozo Painting, Ruins Test, Chozo Warrior Orb Trap, Chozo Warrior Engraving, chozo ghost, or Chozo Mirror.
- The Chozo Hieroglyphic's shoulders resemble that of the shoulders of the Varia Suit.
- It is possible that the Chozo accompanying Samus during the cinematic before battling the Chozo Hieroglyphic was Old Bird from the Metroid E-manga. This can be implied even further by the fact that the appearance of Samus in the cinematic looked similar to, if not exactly like, the time when she was three years old in the manga.
- Samus had made a small engraving on the base of this when she had lived on the planet. The image is of herself, Old Bird, and Grey Voice.
