The Corrupted Pool is a room in Bryyo Fire in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Description[]

This room is a cavern with a large lake of liquid Blue Phazon, with a Grapple Swing Point that allows Samus to reach the other side, which is higher. The lake allows Samus to refill her energy using the PED Suit. This room is also where Samus experiences her first Phazon Overload, after shooting some Phazon vines. Samus is forced to vent out excessive Phazon or die of Terminal Corruption. Aurora Unit 242 contacts her immediately after the Overload asking if she is all right and promising to investigate the incident further. 242 later contacts Samus again and reveals that the Overload was the result of an unforeseen error in the development of her PED Suit: if she remains in Hypermode for too long, the Phazon in her body will overreact and begin to corrupt her if she does not vent it out successfully or the Suit's Auto Vent does not kick in.

Concentrated Phazon
"Your PED Suit will allow you to absorb this Phazon into your body and utilize it as energy."

Development notes[]

The internal name for this room is 0x_generic_hall04. The alphabetic prefix 0x on Bryyo indicates a "generic" junction hall - this is the fourth of seven "generic" junction halls on this planet.

Trivia[]

  • When entering the room for the first time, the Phazon Area theme from Metroid Prime is heard. The theme is once again played in the Leviathan Battleship, and remixes appear in the Leviathan Seeds and on Phaaze.
  • This is the only room in the entire game where the theme The Corruption is heard.
  • If this room's event is skipped (via Sequence Breaking), then Samus will never experience the overloading effect during Hypermode (with the exception of Phaaze, which has its own unique scenario).
  • If Samus enters the room from behind and did not destroy the mass of Phazon vines, if she fires the Hyper Beam's charged shot directly close to the plant, for some odd reason, the Beams fire in a straight line rather than a curved beam.
