The Dark Beam is a Luminoth weapon and one of Samus' beam upgrades. Samus Aran recovered it from Agon Wastes in the game Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

[edit] Description

The Dark Beam damages Light enemies better than the normal Power Beam and can deactivate Light Crystals and Light Beacons. Its Charge Beam technique is called the Entangler, which covers enemies in a hard stone like shell, making them still for a number of seconds. It is similar to the Ice Beam of Metroid Prime and serves a relatively similar function. ie: immobilizing enemies. It also moves at the same speed as the ice beam. The arm cannon also takes the same shape as the Ice Beam from Metroid Prime, as well as the Plasma Beam from Metroid Prime 3.

It was originally designed by the Luminoth to overload the Ing with dark energy in order to kill them. This tactic, however did not work, which resulted in the creation of the Light Beam.

The Dark Beam can activate dimensional rifts on Aether and greatly damages light enemies, such as the Space Pirates and Metroids, even Dark Samus, for she does not originate from Dark Aether. The Dark Beam can also open Purple/Black Doors. As with all ammunition beams in MP2, Samus can charge this when out of ammo for an ordinary shot.

Samus battles Space Pirates. A Darkburst kills one of them in the background.

[edit] Darkburst

In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Samus can also find the Darkburst, the Dark Beam's Charge Combo. This attack creates an interdimensional portal that pulls particles into the interdimensional void. However, some enemies are too heavy to be pulled in and just die (such as Grenchlers).
