The Despair-Class Turret is a turret used by the Space Pirates in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and is powered by Phazon. The Despair-Class Turret is an upated version of the Remorse-Class Turret, and the ultimate model of Turret made by the Pirates. The design is very similar to the previous Remorse model, but has updated with green armour as opposed to the red plating on the Remorse turret. The armour looks very similar to that of the Advanced Pirate Troopers. As a result of the armour change, the turret is far more resistant to damage. The Pirates also added a different Beam system, which appears to be based on the Nova Beam the Pirates had been using to collect Phazon ore in the Pirate Mines. As a result, the Turret is very powerful. The Turret is deployed from the ceiling, and fires two shots at once.
The Despair's targeting system can be evaded by nimble opponents.
The Despair class turret can only be scanned as a separate entity in the PAL version of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. In other versions, the device only counted as a Remorse-Class Turret.
Mechanism: Despair-Class Turret. Space Pirate defense system. Susceptible to explosive attacks.
The Space Pirates have upgraded the venerable "Remorse" turret with a new unit. The "Despair" turret has been reinforced with a layer of heavy armor, making it far more durable. The unit's offensive capabilities remain identical to the previous model and fast moving targets are still able to avoid its limited targeting system.
