The Blastcap is a mushroom-like fungus which is native to the planet Tallon IV.

Description[]

Blastcaps can be found in the Tallon Overworld and Chozo Ruins areas. They resemble large, capped mushrooms of varying size, with twisted stalks and green tendrils underneath their porous caps.

Blastcaps can grow alone, but tend to grow in small clusters. When approached, they will make a rustling noise and shake violently. Upon contact, or when sufficiently damaged, they will violently explode, destroying itself and anything in the immediate vicinity and releasing a cloud of noxious gas.

The spores of the Blastcap can survive in outer space, and have propagated throughout the galaxy by means of traveling on interstellar solar winds. This has resulted in the species traveling as far as the Alimbic Cluster, where it has colonized Alinos and Arcterra. The Blastcaps found on Arcterra are simpler in structure, lacking the tendrils of their Tallonian counterparts and having a red spot in the center of their caps. However, the lingering cloud left by these Blastcaps is more dangerous, and capable of even harming armored individuals.

In Metroid Prime, Blastcaps can be found in these rooms: Tallon Canyon, Watery Hall, Waterfall Cavern, Meditation Fountain, Ruined Gallery, Gathering Hall, Watery Hall Access and Transport Tunnel C. In Hunters, Blastcaps are located in High Ground, Alimbic Gardens, Crash Site and Frost Labyrinth.

Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion: Prima's Official Strategy Guide[]

Blastcap
"These overgrown mushrooms are a nuisance more than anything. Touching them causes them to explode and release a noxious gas that lasts for a few seconds after they are destroyed. Blast away at them from a distance with any weapon of your choice."
Blastcap

Recommended Weapon: Any
"These poisonous mushroom-like plants are strewn about Tallon Overworld and Chozo Ruins. They explode and release a noxious gas on contact. Shoot them from a distance to be safe. If you can't help but touch one, move away quickly, and you may still be able to avoid taking damage. It's always best to manually target Blastcaps. Because they grow in groups, it's really easy to miss one in a hail of automated fire."

Metroid Prime: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide[]

BLASTCAP
"The mushroom-shaped Blastcap will quiver and explode when approached. You'll often find them growing near pools of stagnant water. Keep your distance unless you want a nasty surprise."

MORPHOLOGY
"Volatile chemicals within this weed's toxic fungal cap may explode if agitated. The poisonous flesh of the Blastcap helps keep it from being eaten. It also detonates its fungal cap when it senses even slight contact."
COMBAT TIPS
"Blastcaps are stubborn organisms that require multiple Power Beam hits to be destroyed. Even the Charge Beam isn't always enough to take out a large group of them. Blastcaps are no danger to Samus unless she must traverse the area that they are occupying. In that case, use one of her weapons to take them out, then let the green gas dissipate (after they explode) before moving forward."

Metroid Prime Official Perfect Guide[]

BLASTCAP
"Blastcaps are small mushrooms that detonate when you shoot them--you'll take damage if you're too close, so fire from a distance."

Trivia[]
