Ice Burrowers are enemies encountered in Metroid Prime.

Description[]

Ice Burrowers live in the Phendrana Drifts region on Tallon IV. Ice Burrowers are similar to their "cousins", but have slightly adapted their bodies to compensate for their freezing surroundings by developing shell-like ice plating. They still retain the ability to launch acid as they emerge from the ground, so it is advisable to locate and eliminate them by looking for a moving lump in the snow.

Ice Burrowers are found in Plaza Walkway and Ruins Entryway.

Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion: Prima's Official Strategy Guide[]

Ice Burrower
"Much like their warm-blooded cousins found in Magmoor Caverns, these creatures can be found scurrying through the snow while waiting for would-be victims. Either scatter Morph Ball Bombs around their tracks, or wait for them to pop out of the snow and blast them with your Power Beam, or your Plasma Beam later on in the game. They're easy to avoid, which is often the best option."
Ice Burrower
Found In: Phendrana Drifts
Recommended Weapon: Power Beam, Morph Ball Bomb
"Ice Burrowers burrow in the frozen grounds of Phendrana Drifts. You can spot them by the raised trail they leave behind. To destroy them with you quick-firing Power Beam, you must wait until they sense your presence and pop out of the ground. To destroy them while they are still burrowing, turn into the Morph Ball and lay a bomb on top of them. The Morph Ball Bomb you lay will also destroy them if they pop up above ground before it detonates."

Metroid Prime: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide[]

ICE BURROWER
"There isn't a more annoying creature in the Phendrana Drifts than the Ice Burrower. The tiny creatures dig underground, then leap up and attack by spitting at their prey. Burrowers are fast and difficult to hit--unless you need some target practice, just run by them."

COMBAT TIPS
"Similar to the Burrower, the Ice Burrower can only be targeted once it hops out of the ground. To destroy one, wait until it hops out of the ground, then quickly target it and shoot it with either the Power Beam or a Missile (if there are some to spare). Ice Burrowers often yield power-ups, so using Missiles on them often doesn't drain Missile reserves."
