A Power Conduit

A Power Conduit transports energy to nearby mechanisms and systems, principally doors. Two variants of Power Conduits are featured in the Metroid series. On Tallon IV, they are found in the Glacier One base in the Phendrana Drifts, the Magmoor Workstation in Magmoor Caverns, the Main Quarry in the Phazon Mines and the crashed Frigate Orpheon. In the Alimbic Cluster, they are featured on the Celestial Archives in the room Synergy Core.

When something damages or shuts off a Tallon IV conduit, a door usually becomes disabled and cannot be opened until the conduit is reactivated. These systems emits some heat, thus are visible with the Thermal Visor and can be reactivated by the Wave Beam. Some Doors need more than one Power Conduit to operate. The Thermal Visor is not needed to activate a Power Conduit (except in one instance) and Power Conduits will reflect any weapon's fire not from the Wave Beam. Each Power Conduit requires one shot from the Wave Beam to activate in Normal Mode, but in Hard Mode, each Power Conduit requires two standard shots. In all difficulties, a Charged Wave Beam shot will immediately activate a Power Conduit.

In Metroid Prime, the two times Power Conduits are used to power devices instead of doors are optional instances. In the Main Quarry, a single Power Couduit is used to generate power to a nearby console that controls the crane's operations. In the Magmoor Workstation, three Power Conduits are used to energize a nearby device that activates a cooling system, allowing for magma to be cooled and tunnel doors to open. The Synergy Core Power Conduits are similar, but visible to the normal spectrum, blue in color, hexagonal in shape and sensitive to any projectile including non-electric ones. Four of them exist in the corners of Synergy Core. Each is labeled by the acronym of an inter-cardinal direction, for example, SW for Southwest, or NE for Northeast. Shooting each of them will garner a Shield Key to obtain the room's Alimbic Artifact, which is also the final one required to reach the Stronghold Portal and the first Octolith.

Objects named Power Conduits are also featured on Norion, but these are merely channels for energy feeding from all three Fedtech Plasma Generators to the Defense Cannon.

The Power Conduits are labeled as a square object with the internal name Thermal Panel.

Trivia[]

  • The Power Conduit in Ruined Courtyard does not appear until the Thermal Visor is collected. This is due to developers fixing an early Sequence Break in the original 1.0 version of the game where the Power Conduit can be activated without obtaining the Thermal Visor first.
