Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion: Prima's Official Strategy Guide[]

Ice Beetle
Found In: Phendrana Drifts
Recommended Weapon: Plasma Beam
"The Ice Beetle is a better-armored version of the standard Beetle. The ice covering its body makes Ice Beetles a little resistant, but not immune, to all attacks but the Plasma Beam. If you don't yet have the Plasma Beam when you face them, any weapon will do; just be prepared to shoot them with a few extra shots."

Metroid Prime: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide[]

ICE BEETLE
"Ice Beetles are nearly identical to the regular Beetles, but they can withstand extremely cold temperatures and are a little tougher to destroy. If you don't want to mess around, take them out with a Missile. Otherwise, the speedy Ice Beetles might burrow underground and surprise you from behind."

Metroid Prime Official Strategy Guide[]

ICE BEETLE
MORPHOLOGY
"Ice Beetles are burrowing insects with an ice-reinforced carapace, and they have an aversion to heat of any kind. This member of the Beetle family has adapted to life in the subzero temperatures in the Phendrana Drifts, growing a thick ice shell over its entire body. The ice is extremely resilient, providing the Ice Beetle with extra protection and augmented digging abilities."
COMBAT TIPS
"The Ice Beetles are icy versions of Ruin Beetles. They are tougher because their icy shell is more difficult to penetrate, but they are weak against any heat-based weapons such as the Power Beam or the Charge Beam."

Metroid Prime Official Perfect Guide[]

ICE BEETLE
"If you shoot Ice Beetles with the Wave Beam they bury themselves into the ground, so shoot them with a Power Beam instead. They're faster than regular Beetles."

Trivia[]

  • A scan in Research Lab Hydra reveals that an infestation of Ice Beetles occurred throughout the Glacier One facility that was 95% exterminated. It is unknown if the number reached 100% throughout Prime.
  • Sometimes, the Ice Beetle performs an extremely dramatic death, trying to crawl forward for a last time, then dropping and fading away. It particularly does this when set on fire by a single Plasma Beam shot or by defeating it with standard Power Beam shots.
  • Despite adapting in icy environments, Ice Beetles can still be frozen or destroyed with the Ice Beam.
    • Firing a single Ice Beam shot will sometimes glitch the Ice Beetle. If it stays frozen, it cannot be shot at until the ice breaks.
