Grapple Voltage

From Wikitroid, the Metroid wiki

The Grapple Voltage as it is obtained.

The Grapple Voltage uses the Grapple Beam and gives Samus Aran the ability to either siphon or give energy to objects and creatures. This ability is similar to the energy-draining abilities of Metroid. It only appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and is obtained after defeating Gandrayda.

The Grapple Voltage is directly tied to Samus's PED Suit. If she siphons energy from something, she gains health, though if she gives energy, she loses her health. Note that giving up energy to another is a gameplay mechanic - Phazon enemies can be overloaded and explode, and during a certain part of the game, Samus is practically required to lose energy via this method. The Grapple Voltage can also be used to drain energy from the armour of Space Pirates which carry shields (and thus replenishing Samus's own energy) by first attaching the grapple to the Pirate's shield as if to rip it off and then using the link to drain the Pirate's energy. However, the Grapple will only continue to drain energy until the Space Pirate's armor falls off.

Enemies are killed much faster if they are overloaded with energy rather than it being siphoned from them.

Like most power-ups in Metroid Prime 3, it has a Hypermode counterpart, which is called the Hyper Grapple.

[edit] Trivia

  • Although in the key of the map there are purple doors, there in fact is no single Grapple Voltage door in the whole game. Instead the Grapple Voltage is used only to power doors, or disable shields blocking them.
