Heat Worm

These creatures thrive in various places throughout the BSL Space Station, mostly in superheated areas such as Sector 3. These seem to be mutated forms of the Fune and Namihe, two Wallfire-like species found on the planet Zebes. The eyeless variant of this creature seems to correspond to the Fune, while the more powerful variant seems to correspond to the Namihe. Both bear a striking resemblance to their Zebes counterparts, and have the mutated ability to surprisingly lunge several meters from their resting places in walls. The eyed variant of this mimicked species retains the ability to launch fireballs from its mouth, and is also 30% more resistant to weapons fire than its lesser, eyeless variant.

• The general appearance of this creature as well as its mode of attack by lunging out at Samus may be a reference to the inner jaw of the alien in the Alien Series, which the Metroid series was based on.
