Kiru Giru (Imago Larva) is the fifth boss Samus faces in Metroid: Zero Mission on planet Zebes. Not many tend to notice, but this boss battle consists of saving the larva that's ensnared and getting slowly devoured by what seems to be carnivorous vines, as Samus witnessed many other creatures being consumed by similar looking vine-like plants before entering this chamber. To defeat it you must freeze the winged Ripper, jump on it, and shoot the vines that are holding the larva with missiles. Spores are constantly being launched from the larva, perhaps a result of interior decay caused by the vines. As Samus destroys the vines, the larva slowly changes from grey to its natural colors (most probably because the vines were absorbing its blood). When defeated, the larva itself will fall through the floor where it later forms a cocoon and grows into an adult Imago.

Samus also encountered two other larvae before this (although these were free roaming). They can only be harmed by attacks to their vulnerable undersides, so either shooting through the ceiling with the Wave Beam if they are above you or planting Bombs in their path before they charge are the only way to defeat them. Interesting to note is that after killing these two Imago larvae, a third one can be seen before fighting the boss mentioned above, although this one appears to be dead and is pierced by two vine-like appendages (and seem to be consuming the body from within); these vines are most likely responsible for killing the larva.
