Krocuss are small, heavily-shielded molluscs native to Torvus Bog. While foraging, they leave trails of weak acid behind them, much as snails leave mucus trails when moving around. They also take toxins from the air (presumably in lieu of oxygen) in through a set of gills on their backs at regular intervals, and it is when the creatures spread out their armour plating to expose the gills to the air that they can be damaged with an assault of weapons fire. Krocuss appear in only one room: Grove Access.

A Krocuss has a rather simple pattern of roaming around a set path. Overtime, they stay idle and open their backsides to expose their gills as they look toward their surroundings. Any weapon can eliminate a Krocuss but only very few can pierce through the creature's thick hide and damage the creature directly.

  • When gills are exposed, any weapon can damage its backside. A Dark Beam blast will freeze the foe, which may cause it to move while frozen if struck by repeat blasts. A Light Beam shot will cause it to catch fire and eventually burn up.
  • While protected, it can be damaged by the Boost Ball, though its sturdy health may also damage Samus via contact damage. Powerful weapons like Power Bombs, the Screw Attack, and all Charge Combos except the Super Missile will eliminate a protected Krocuss with ease.

A Krocuss possesses 60 HP (Hard Mode). It will let out a cry each time it is damaged. Their contact damage delivers 15-16 units of damage to Samus (Hard mode, with Varia Suit) and can cause somewhat strong knockback to Samus.

Krocuss

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Temporary scan

Morphology: Krocuss
Toxin-eating forager.
Heavily armored; attack when it exposes its gills to damage it.

Logbook entry

The Krocuss thrives on toxins it extracts from its surroundings. It secretes an acidic trail in its wake as it roams in search of nourishment. The durable mollusk can be damaged when it exposes its toxin-absorbing gills; few weapons can penetrate the creature's shell.

Development Data[]

An unused Logbook entry exists for the Krocuss within the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc. Its entry is identical to the final with the exception of an additional sentence later removed. The last sentence raises the possibility of the creature possessing a damaging toxin upon death similar to a Preed. This sentence was removed in the final (alongside this possibly unused tactic), though its death animation still remains, which resembles what is stated. The removed sentence is as follows:

  • A dying Krocuss is not a pleasant thing; it releases a cloud of toxic vapor as it expires.
