Mermen Pirates

Found only in Metroid Fusion, they were the result of an X containing Skultera DNA combining with an X containing Space Pirate DNA: a swimming Pirate with a tail instead of legs.

Mermen Pirates, as they are called, fired short, red blasts and could swim towards Samus at rapid speed. This makes them better suited to water than normal Space Pirates, whose standard long greenish-yellowish beams and movement were hindered by water. Their armor was, however, made weaker by the fusion of DNA: they can be slain by one charged Plasma beam instead of two.

When Samus entered a room in ARC that had two X-Pirates in it and destroyed one of them, the X Parasites released by that organism quickly made their way to be absorbed by the other Pirate, mutating that second one into a Merman Pirate. This made dealing with them a bit difficult, as the same thing happened when Samus killed Skultera-Xs before dealing with the X-Pirates.
