Metroid II: Return of Samus was planned to be re-released for Game Boy Color as a DX game but was cancelled due to Mario and Zelda games taking the limelight. Mario Bros. DX and The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX were released instead and this game was scrapped.
There have been 'Deluxe' patches for Game Boy emulators for the game Metroid II: Return of Samus Roms that gives Metroid II the colour palette of any Game Boy Color game.
