Next Level Games is a subsidiary of Nintendo, and former independent video game developer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The company worked on an untitled Metroid game presumably for the Nintendo 3DS, but it was shelved in favor of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.[1] They did develop and release a spinoff of Metroid, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which was marred by controversy before and after release due to its timing and extreme departure from the traditional gameplay of the Metroid series. Aside from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, the cancelled Metroid game and Federation Force, Next Level was also responsible for the 2009 Wii game Punch-Out!! as well as its DLC expansion Doc Louis's Punch-Out!!.

Following the release of Federation Force, Next Level was assigned Luigi's Mansion 3 on Nintendo Switch, which was also overseen by Kensuke Tanabe. It features a remix of Main Theme - Metroid Prime: Federation Force on the Great Stage floor, and a Federation Force movie poster (across from a Punch-Out!! poster) on the Paranormal Productions floor.

On January 5, 2021, it was announced that Nintendo had acquired Next Level Games, with the acquisition set to close on March 1, 2021.[2]
