Norfair (ノルフェア?)[1], also known as Norfair Area (ノルフェリア エリア?)[2], is the theme of Norfair in Metroid and its remake, Metroid: Zero Mission. It was originally composed by Hirokazu Tanaka.

DescriptionEdit

The Norfair theme in Metroid is a slow and simple song comprised of three repeating melodic patterns, broken up by short periods of silence.

Part of the Famicom Disk System version of the Norfair theme is included with other Metroid tracks on Super Metroid: Sound in Action. This includes a sound effect of Samus Aran running at the beginning.

Zero Mission remixes the Norfair theme with similar instrumentation to Norfair Ancient Ruins Area, giving it a grand and dramatic tone. The original melody is spiced up with more variation, and an entire new section was added to the song with a melody reminiscent of Norfair Ancient Ruins Area. This version is included in the Sound Test as number 05.

A techno remix of the theme is included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Norfair stage. This arrangement by Yuzo Koshiro of Ancient is based on the original NES version, since it does not incorporate any of the additions made in Zero Mission. The theme is unlocked randomly by collecting a CD during a match. It is also heard in The Subspace Bomb Factory (Part I) during Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. It returns in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U along with its stage, now available by default.
