Pat Wells is a longtime Nintendo employee and veteran of the Nintendo Power Hotline. According to Wells, "our job was to turn players' frustrations into victories." In November 2016, the hotline was brought back for a weekend coinciding with the release of the NES Classic Edition (which includes Metroid); Wells recorded messages for callers reflecting on the hotline and gave tips for Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3.

In the years since, Wells has been heavily involved in quality assurance. He was a game tester for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime Hunters, and a testing coordinator for Metroid Prime Trilogy. Outside of video games, Wells was a game consultant for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide, for the 1998 Nintendo 64 game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
