Phendrana Drifts

The Phendrana Drifts are an area on Tallon IV, explored by Samus in Metroid Prime. Located at the southwestern edge of the explorable Tallon IV areas, the Phendrana Drifts are icy and snowy, some parts filled with water. They are home to such creatures as Sheegoths, Ice Beetles, and Scatter Bombus. The Phendrana Drifts were also the site for two Chozo villages, one on the west, and one on the east side of the Phendrana Shorlines. The Chozo also built an Ice Temple in Phendrana.

After the Space Pirate established a base on Tallon IV, they made a laboratory and research center in the Phendrana Drifts to research Metroids because Metroids had a vulnarability to cold. The Space Pirates also built an observatory and a Thermal Visor research facility in the region.

Phendrana is roughly divided into three areas: the area around the Phendrana Shorlines, which includes Phendrana Canyon and the Chozo Ruins, the Space Pirate base, and a more remote part of Phendrana, where the Gravity Chamber, Phendrana's Edge, among other rooms, are located.

Within the game, Samus acquires the Boost Ball, Wave Beam, Super Missile, Thermal Visor, Spider Ball, and Gravity Suit all within the Drifts. The boss of the area is Thardus, found in the Quarantine Cave, who is a Space Pirate experiment to infuse Tallonic materials with Phazon.
