Puffers are small organisms native to the planet of Tallon IV. They float around by emitting puffs of green gas. When one is touched or destroyed, it explodes, releasing a cloud of gas. This gas is incredibly toxic and caustic, and can even be a hazard to those wearing sealed pressure suits.
Puffers are similar in function to the biomechanical Preeds used for scouting duty by the Space Pirates; it is possible that they were captured and altered by the Space Pirates upon their discovery on Tallon IV. The Bulls of Zebes and Biologic Space Laboratories research station are also very similar.
