Ram War Wasps are creatures that appear in Metroid Prime. In Japanese they are known as Blood Wasps (ブラッドワスプ Buraddowasupu?).

Description[]

The Ram War Wasp is a species of War Wasp that resides in the Hive Mecha, found exclusively in the Hive Totem room of the Chozo Ruins. After emerging from the machine to confront their enemy, they fly in circles around it at high speeds, and pause briefly for moments as preparation to strike. A strike by these wasps is a coordinated attack, with all individuals actually shooting toward their enemy at once so that it is bombarded from all directions. While the insects falter (as they gather themselves before zooming toward their target), they are vulnerable to attack and can be picked off.

By scanning the Hive Mecha after the battle with it and the Ram War Wasps, Samus can find that the wasps strangely continue to reside in the now-disabled machine, but remain inside it and thus fail to make another appearance in the entire game.

Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion: Prima's Official Strategy Guide[]

Ram War Wasp
Found In: Chozo Ruins
Recommended Weapon: Power Beam
"Ram War Wasps appear during the boss fight with the Hive Mecha. They emerge in waves and spin around you before they position themselves in a circle. Their hive mind allows them to all attack at once. Use your Power Beam to rotate with the Ram War Wasps and quickly fire at them. When they stop, use [L] to lock on and shoot them before they get a chance to ram you. After you destroy each wave, aim for the Hive Mecha. You must repeat this with each wave of Ram War Wasps that issue from the Hive Mecha. See Hive Mecha also."

RAM WAR WASP
MORPHOLOGY
"The Ram War Wasp is an airborne predator insect that circles its prey and strikes with others as a group. The War Wasps are the only species on Tallon IV to evolve a true hive mind. Nesting in damp, dark places, Ram War Wasps emerge in small groups when threatened and circle their enemy at high speeds, disorienting it. Striking from all sides, as a single intelligence, they can fell huge organisms with their tactics."
COMBAT TIPS
"Ram War Wasps are a tougher, meaner, and more aggressive form of War Wasp that must be attacked aggressively. Assuming the Hive has been destroyed (or is a non-factor as in the boss fight with the Incinerator Drone), keep a close eye on the War Wasps as they move and target them when they hesitate. One hit is enough to destroy a Ram War Wasp, so sit in one spot and wait for the War Wasps to hesitate for a split second, then hit them!"

Metroid Prime Official Perfect Guide[]

MINI-BOSS: RAM WAR WASP AND HIVE MECHA
"Wait for the Ram War Wasps (a super-fast mega-breed of the regular War Wasp) to fly out of the Hive Mecha and start circling you; once they stop, find the ones hovering nearby and lock on (or don't--it may be faster for you to kill them if you don't), and blast them away with your Power Beam. No matter what, don't stop shooting. When you've eliminated a whole wave of Ram War Wasps, train your sights onto the Hive Mecha and blast its frontispiece as fast as you can; after twelve hits total to the Hive Mecha, the Ram Flitter assault will have ended, and the Hive Mecha will open to reveal the Missile Launcher. Jump across and grab it."
