Rubiks Puzzle

A Rubiks Puzzle is part of the puzzle in the Main Gyro Chamber in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The room contains the main Dynamo, with two large rotating rings and an unstable core. Samus is required to take the two rings offline, although destroying the core is optional.

Samus must use Spinners in the room to lower security doors blocking parts of the Chamber. A Bomb Slot can be found close to Save Station B. When used, it triggers the first Rubiks Puzzle. As its name implies, the puzzle is similar to a Rubik's Cube and consists of nine circular modules, color-coded in groups of three (red, green and blue), with four control units that must be shot to rotate the modules and form a straight line with all three of the same color on that line. To make the puzzle easier, the line, when completed, will go offline and become unable to rotate. When the first puzzle is completed, it stops the first ring and allows Samus to use it as a walkway.

After Samus regains the Power Bombs, she can access an elevator that takes her to the higher floor of the Chamber. Here, she must destroy Denzium objects on this floor to summon another Bomb Slot, which triggers another Rubiks Puzzle. Completing this introduces a final Bomb Slot, which shuts down the second ring in midair. It is lined with a Spider Ball Track, which Samus can Boost Jump off of to pursue Dark Samus to the Aerie.

The puzzle's name originates from the internal object's data. As it implies, the puzzle is similar to a Rubik's cube. The nodes are called holocubes in the data, despite not being cubes. The smaller circles that Samus fires at are referred to as Buttons.

Trivia[]

  • Using Sequence Breaking, it is possible to skip the second puzzle and destroy the glass first containing the second puzzle . Doing so will have the puzzle appear in mid-air when activated.
