Samus Returns Screw Attack Block

Screw Attack Blocks in Metroid: Samus Returns.

Screw Attack Blocks are a variety of destructible block that appears in Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread. As the name implies, Screw Attack Blocks are destroyed when Samus Screw Attacks through them. Often they look like a solid, normal block, but can be revealed with Samus' stronger weapons.

As the Screw Attack appears near the end of both its appearances, Screw Attack Blocks are frequently used to encourage further exploration before the final sequences, protecting many otherwise inaccessible Missile Expansions, Power Bomb Tanks and Energy Tanks. In Metroid Fusion, Screw Attack Blocks protect the secret passages between sectors, preventing Samus from accessing these shortcuts until the very end of the game.

In Dread, some obstacles with Screw Attack Blocks are marked with blue cracks, providing a subtle clue without needing to identify them using bombs or missiles. This is similar to Boost Blocks in the same game.

"These are some of the trickier Blocks to find and destroy simply because they're often in spaces most easily reached with the Space Jump ability. They're frequently linked to shortcuts and/or secrets, so make sure to jump through them after grabbing the Screw Attack upgrade."
