"The SHOCK COIL is a prototype federation weapon that emits a concentrated beam of high-density NEUTRINOS within a set radius." -Metroid Prime: Hunters Logbook Entry

Shock Coil
Shock Coil

The Shock Coil was a prototype weapon under development by the Galactic Federation, but was stolen by the bounty hunter Sylux, along with plans for his power suit and his ship, the Delano 7. It emits a short-ranged, continuous burst of concentrated, high density neutrinos, and seeks the nearest target. The Shock Coil's damage effect is highly similar to Metroid Prime's Wavebuster. The amount of damage done to the target increases with prolonged fire. When used by Sylux, any damage done to the target will be added to his own Energy Reserves. This weapon has no charge attack.

Samus Aran acquires the Shock Coil at the Celestial Archives.

[edit] Multiplayer Role

In Multiplayer, the Shock Coil is ideal for close combat with a single enemy. If there are multiple enemies within range and close to each other, you may have trouble locking on to the intended target. Also, it is somewhat difficult to target enemies who are in their Alt forms, as they are smaller and harder to hit. It is even more difficult to target enemies in their alt form if they get very close to you. As this is Sylux`s affinity weapon, he can drain energy from opponents. All hunters can do this while they are a prime hunter. (This weapon is highly dreaded among online players-- most find it annoying to be constantly drained of energy by a single person. A small tip: if you face Sylux, the best hunter to escape with is Weavel, who can use his alt-form as a decoy to scare off the Sylux-player.However do not stay in alt form long,a s most veteran Sylux players will locate the lowever half and form a nuke triangle around it) The Shock Coil, upon initial attack, will do damage at a moderately slow rate, but if it's beam does not break with it's target, the rate at which it deals damage will increase to an impressive level that can make it almost hopeless to continue fighting with it's user at close range. Therefore, as a target, it is best to make sure to take every opportunity to keep the beam out of contact with you, so as to keep the damage rate (and just the damage amount in general) low, because if the enemy's coil gains a high enough damage rate, it can become virtually impossible to deal damage faster than receiving it. The ideal is to stay out of range of the Shock Coil completely. Alternatively, as the user of a Shock Coil it is best to try and make sure the beam breaks as little as possible with the target; as the rate of damage per second increases, it becomes increasingly costly to your enemy. This weapon is actully quite good midrange, due to its slight homing capabiltity.
