Splinter

Splinters are common, insectoid creatures that live on many planets, although in the games Samus only encounters them on Aether. Splinters live in cocoons most of the time, and come out of them to hunt and forage. If a being approaches Splinter cocoons, the Splinters withing will awaken and go into a state of blood frenzy, rousing other Splinters nearby. This can prove them to be hazardardous if the being is travelling alone and weaponless. Their Dark Aether counterparts were the Dark Splinters, which went extinct after Dark Aether was destroyed.

Other varieties were the Alpha Splinter and Worker Splinter.

Judging solely by their physical characteristics, they may be related to the Zebesian Beetoms.
