The Stone Statues appear in the original Metroid. They are used to guard Tourian and depict the likenesses of Kraid and Ridley, the two minibosses in the game. The statues are situated on a ledge above a pool of Acid. This prevents Samus from easily accessing Tourian. To get to the Blue Door leading to Tourian's elevator, Samus must defeat the two minibosses and then shoot the flashing statues. They will rise, and a bridge of Bomb Blocks will form.
There is another way to get to Tourian without having to kill Kraid and Ridley. Samus must lure a Reo from the previous room inside, and then freeze it when it flies into the Acid. She can lay a Bomb to jump off of it and onto the other ledge.
In Metroid: Zero Mission, the statues are replaced by gateways, which resemble Kraid's and Ridley's heads. These heads are situated on rock floor, preventing Samus from repeating the Sequence Break technique in Metroid. Again, Kraid and Ridley must be defeated to cause the heads to "open" their mouths, allowing Samus to walk through. In Super Metroid, they are replaced by the Golden Statues.
