The Light Beam is a Luminoth weapon and one of Samus' beam upgrades. Samus Aran recovered it from Dark Agon Wastes in the game Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
[edit] Description
The Luminoth first experimented with the idea of overloading Dark creatures with the Dark Beam, and when that failed, moved on to the Light Beam, which proved to be a far deadlier weapon in their war against the Ing. The light beam is similar in function to the plasma beam from Metroid Prime, in its use of setting enemies on fire. It shares its appearance with that of the wave beam.
The Light Beam can activate dimensional rifts on Dark Aether and greatly damages Dark enemies, such as the Ing. The Light Beam can also open White Doors.
As with all ammunition beams in MP2, Samus can charge this when out of ammo for an ordinary shot.

Once acquired from the Grand Windchamber, Samus could use the Sunburst, the Charge Combo for the Light Beam. It created a slow moving sphere of light that would be good for destroying slow-moving Dark enemies.
The Light Beam is similar to the Plasma Beam of Metroid Prime, and the arm cannon uses the shape of the Wave Beam from Metroid Prime and the Nova Beam from Metroid Prime 3.
