Sylux[1] is a theme from Metroid Prime Hunters. It was composed by Lawrence Schwedler.

Description[]

As its title indicates, Sylux is heard while battling Sylux during the game's Adventure Mode. It is first heard in the Weapons Complex on Vesper Defense Outpost, as well as any subsequent random encounters with Sylux during the rest of the campaign. A faster variant is heard as part of the Gorea boss theme when Gorea uses the Shock Coil. It is also available as track 22 in the game's Music Test after defeating Gorea's second form.

Like all other Bounty Hunter boss themes in Hunters, Sylux opens with a tense stinger and carries a specific bass harmony (possibly the leitmotif for the Bounty Hunters) throughout the song. The melody is performed by high-pitched strings, which play shrill dissonant chords that melodically rise in key. Much like Boss Omega or Vs. Reo, these shrieking strings invoke a sense of terrifying intensity.

An unused track, Seq Intro Sylux, contains a portion of Sylux's melody; based upon the file name, it may have been intended as an intro to the main Sylux theme (possibly during Sylux's intro cutscene during his first encounter). This version starts with just the strings and bass, with the percussion being added near the end. It can be heard here: [2]

Another unused track, Seq Intro Weavel, uses the high-pitched strings from Sylux, despite the track being presumably associated with Weavel instead.
