Perhaps the name "Brinstar" is a portmanteau of the words "brinstone" and "star". I could be wrong, though.

No, because brinstone was introduced in Prime, which was released after Super Metroid and Metroid. Brimstone is a possibility though. Hellkaiserryo12 16:57, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
