Am I remembering correctly that this only works if the beam equipped is the power beam, and not the ice/wave/plasma beams? TwistedNerve

Merge[]

I am opposed to a merge with Missiles. Though story is an important part of Metroid, glitches are too. This is one of the better known glitches. I believe it is important enough to merit it's own article. And glitches shouldn't be unverified name! Glitches were never intended, therefore Nintendo would never give them a name. Opposed to merge. It's a discrete topic. "My name is AdmiralSakai, and I approve this message." 23:20, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

I say we merge them. To similar to stay separated. Hex60 02:45, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

Opposed. 24.94.89.214 02:49, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

I would say maybe, maybe not. Missiles in 2-D games can be fired rapidly. How do we even know this was a glitch in the original Prime? --Mr. Anon (talk) 16:19, August 21, 2012 (UTC)

Because it was fixed in later games and trilogy, and due to the fact that you have to press certain buttons to make it work. It cancels the long reload animation. The MarioGalaxy2433g5 {talk/contribs} 16:44, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
It wasn't fixed in Trilogy. I just tested it. --Mr. Anon (talk) 18:07, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
Or maybe it wasn't fixed in trilogy. I guess they were more concerned with what actually causes sequence breaks. I can tell you it is a glitch, since it wasn't intentional. The MarioGalaxy2433g5 {talk/contribs} 18:16, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I think I oppose a merge too. I'll take the tag off. --Mr. Anon (talk) 20:31, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

Alternative names[]

There are alternative names for this technique, and I'm not sure they're not relevant. These are: "Missile Glitch" and "Missile Cancelling". -- Hounder4 (T) (C) 19:02, January 9, 2012 (UTC)

Other M[]

I noticed that it is possible to perform this in Metroid: Other M, as evidenced here from mastersamus101:

I discovered you can cancel fps moves like missiles and grapples beams. To do so you must be in the air lock on after that and rapidly press the fire button. As a result you cancel the animation. I won't show the grapple beam cancel though. Because the grapple beam gets canceled before you actually fire the grapple and makes it useless. Missiles though come out fast enough!

In other words, if you go into Search View mode and lock on to an enemy while in mid-air, you can fire missiles in rapid succession, which cancels the missile reloading animation. -- Hounder4 (T) (C) 20:03, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
