"Tohryu Mako Benkei" is an amalgamation of the names of three restaurants in Japan - Tohryu (a Chinese restaurant), Benkei Dining, and Sometime Mako (a cafe). In the final 3 months of the development of Metroid, the developers frequently ordered from these three restaurants as they were located close to Nintendo's headquarters. Feeling that the restaurants were especially helpful, the developers decided to include them in the credits. Tohru Narihiro removed these credits for the NES version, for unknown reasons. Tohryu closed "quite a while back", and Benkei Dining closed in 2016, while Sometime Mako is apparently still open.[1][2] Benkei and Mako were also credited in the staff list of Doki Doki Panic.
