Beam Troopers are special types of Pirate Troopers that were modified so they could use reverse-engineered versions of Samus Aran's beam weapons. However, the copies are flawed; the shielding leaves their users vulnerable to their own Beam weapon system and their weapons, although still potent, are inferior to the Chozo-designed originals.
Beam Troopers appeared in Metroid Prime and are found in the Phazon Mines as a relatively common enemy. There are four types: Power, Wave, Ice and Plasma.
The Pirate Commander in Metroid Prime 3 has a similar helmet to the beam troopers'.
All Beam Troopers can be destroyed by a single Power Bomb.
[edit] Trivia
- It's interesting to note that the Space Pirates had actually tried to reverse-engineer multiple parts of Samus' suit. In one Pirate Log in Metroid Prime, it states that they tried to recreate the Morph Ball system, but the prototypes grotesquely contorted and destroyed the bodies of the testers.
- A Power Trooper can be seen attempting to ambush Samus, hanging from a ceiling before being shot by unknown bounty hunters, in the secret video in Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt.
