Yosuke Hayashi

Hayashi being interviewed by fansite Metroid Headquarters in June 2011.

Yosuke Hayashi is the current president of Team Ninja, a Koei Tecmo company that formed a pillar of Project M, the development team of Metroid: Other M. Hayashi was the producer and director of that game alongside Yoshio Sakamoto from Nintendo, but did not write the game's story, which was handled by Sakamoto. Hayashi attempted to combine the exploration-based gameplay of Metroid with action and combat elements from Team Ninja's primary series, Ninja Gaiden, while developing Samus Aran's character as a relatable person to the player. According to him, development of Other M commenced as development of Ninja Gaiden II was wrapping up. He felt that Other M was a valuable challenge that Team Ninja could learn from, even if it was not released on the most powerful game console at the time.

Hayashi participated in a video created by Shinesparkers, paying tribute to the Metroid series on its 25th anniversary in 2011. [1]

Trivia[]

  • Hayashi joined Tecmo right out of college. His first project was Dead or Alive 3.
  • He was a fan of Metroid before working on Other M, and played Super Metroid in his youth. He said the chance to develop Other M was "surreal".
  • Following the release of Other M, Hayashi and Sakamoto continued to meet frequently and discuss things they wish they could have included or changed about Other M. He was eager to work with Nintendo again, which he did, developing Hyrule Warriors.
